Our Bali Trip

It was 2008 and it was one of the great year in my life. I remember the year economy was performing well and thus our bonus were good. It was the forth year of my work life and I was just able to start to get a grip of what work life has to offer. Bonus were good, colleagues and friends were in good spirit and we were set out to have more trips in our life with the good economy.

Me and my friend decided to do a last minute first trip to Bali. And so happily we did our last minute booking. I log into air asia, got myself and my friend free and easy package with flight and hotel book through air asia. It was done in a split of second without much details needed. And there you go. I didn't read much about the hotel indeed. First check point (hotel is a puzzle).

Second task, I assigned my friend to change some money so we could spend in Bali. The problem is, me and my friend are indeed similar in many ways of thinking, we like fast and easy. So she took a simple way, without checking the currency that is used in Bali, she happily told the money changer that we need some money in Bali. And the money changer were asking, so you need rupiah / rupee ? And my friend casually answer yes..second check point (rupiah / rupee) ?

When the day arrived, we were so proud of ourself that we were so efficient in co-organising a fun trip in a fast and easy way. Everything done through online and money were changed the night before the flight departure. How smarty pant we were. Haha. When we landed in Bali, the first thing we should be doing is to get a taxi to send us to our hotel. And so we went to buy cab ticket. And my friend open up her wallet to reach for the money to hand it over to the counter. And the counter rejected us and we were puzzle, why ? OMG is the phrase to describe the moment when I took a good look on the money, Ghandi face was looking at me. It was rupee, money used in India. My friend got us the wrong money !! We needed rupiah and she got us a stack of rupeeeeee…OMG. It was hilarious and alarming.

So my friend hurried to the airport money exchange counter to get our rupee to change to rupiah. But no counters wanted to change for us as nobody will buy rupee in Bali. hahahahha…what a joke. We were really in deep shit. Because we have no other currency but only rupee in Bali for the whole trip. We were sweating as we tried way to overcome our silliness.

We somehow manage to get a cab to send us to our hotel. When we were arriving at our hotel, we noted the hotel were situated in a paddy field. It was another moment of joke as we laugh through our silliness and got ourself park in the middle of paddy field. Till that point, we were to exhausted to feel mad but to laugh at ourself.

As we cruised through our stays at Bali, we came to an end to our trip with the little cash money that we managed to change it for our rupee. We were so proud of ourself that we managed to survive with how little cash we have and no one tell us that we need to save cash money to pay airport tax when departing ! last check point (OMG - how are we going to pay airport tax) ?

We were so exhausting at that point and with ourself. It was hilarious with a mixture of anxiety as we were really scare that we might miss our flight. We came with a solution, which is to borrow money from our fellow malaysian people. We try to wait people to queue up air asia counter and we without shame, we asked every person that lining up and seek for their kind helps to lend us rupiah to pay for the airport tax. We were so lucky that our fellow malaysian friends were so kind, and lend us the money. We managed to pay for airport tax and landed safely in kuala lumpur ! We were really grateful and remember how adventures and fun it was our Bali trip.
